During the SNES' lifetime there were a wide variety of '''Copier''' devices available for dumping and simulating cartridge ROMs.

These devices were the origin of SNES [[ROM file formats]], and responsible for the extra 512-byte headers which appear in many ROM files, as well as the many varied filenames:

* .SMC - Super Magicom
* .SWC - Super Wild Card
* .FIG - Super Wild Card

Some devices also used "trainer" patches, either to make a game compatible with the copier, or to add cheats or other modifications for the player.
